International judicial cooperation in Brazil recognition and enforcement of foreign decisions at the Superior Court of Justice

Abstract: The purpose of this essay is to bring forth the current system of recognition of foreign decisions in Brazil, as well as to analyze the most recent Superior Court of Justice (STJ) cases. In the first part of the article, the requisites for the homologation process are discussed always in accordance with case law. In the second part, Res. STJ 9 is analyzed in the light of recent decisions held by the STJ as well as of the Project for a new Code of Civil Procedure.
